In January of 2013 Sculpture by the Sea mounted an exhibition of a selection of works from the 2012 Bondi exhibition in the 7th floor gallery in David Jones, Elizabeth Street in Sydney: sculpture by the Sea on Seven. The beautiful light filled space with its tall windows provided a wonderful location for large sculpture. All the works though needed to be ‘flat pack’ as the lift up to the space was small.
statement:
I chose to thread the work that I had exhibited at Bondi with a different colour and different arrangement, changing its name from transition to inversion, the clear threading reflecting up the wonderful light in the space. I also chose to place a mirror at the base of the work to create a sense of context and depth – it also created the effect that no one could see themselves in the mirror yet they could see other people around them and the environment.
I would like to thank:
- Deborah for her invaluable assistance installing the threads
- SXS and David Jones for making this great opportunity happen.
